Riding a jet ski can offer hours of fun as well as entertainment. As soon as you get a jet ski, you can’t resist your temptation and will surely put it in the nearby bay and have a ride. However, before you do so, it is good to learn some basic techniques. You should be fully confident of operating a jet ski and must feel a sense of comfort and competency before taking that first ride. Riding a jet sky alone is much easier than carrying passengers. If you are riding along with passengers, it would make your jet skiing a bit more cumbersome, as more the total weight, trickier it will be to maneuver the watercraft.

It is suggested to load not more than 500 lbs weight together with any cargo you may carry. And if you exceed this prescribed limit then you might go under the surface or turn over. In case you are carrying people along with a jet ski, then ahead of starting the engine, look carefully that each commuter is firmly gripping the person in front of them.

While working out with a jet ski, you will encounter four essential speeds: trolling, sub planning, planning and above planning speed. Trolling, good for adopting sluggish turns, comes into effect when the speed is less than 5 mph and it is the lowest operating speed. Sub planning, an average speed, comes in play where you are roving around 10-15 mph while planning and above planning is when the hull of the craft rides across the surface of the water.

While operating a jet ski, you may not get smooth and flat water. This will tend you to learn how to traverse wakes and swells without risk of damage. The best way to overcome swells and wakes, generated through other boaters and wind, is with the least quantity of jerk to all and sundry. You will find small swells rather easier to be traversed than bulky swells or a cluster of wakes. While going through a wake or swell, grasp the handle bars resolutely, reduce your pace and firmly root your feet to the floor. Probably, picking a 45 degree angle might easily get you through the cross and the swell. Contrary to it, at lower degrees, you will face more resistance in doing so.

Try to keep your head and shoulders elevated over the front of the handle bars. And be wary of using your jet ski in rough water and bad weather. Generally, riders worry about what to do if it capsizes and really who would wish it to be capsized ever. In this condition, if it has been left upside down too long, it could cause severe damage to the engine and lead to its failure. Never leave it capsized longer than it needs to be. The engine shut off clip must be detached as soon as possible in this condition. To drive out any left over water from the engine compartment, maneuver the jet sky beyond planning speed for at least two minutes.
