Dune Buggy PartsThe Glamis Sand Dunes, recognized as Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, are to be found southeast of the Salton Sea in southern California. They are located at the edge of Arizona and Baja California del Norte in Mexico. The field is long in the region of 45 miles while it is only 6 miles wide. It runs along the side of a northwest-southeast line that links to the existing northerly and westerly wind directions. The Glamis Sand Dunes are hailed as the most admired off-road spot in Southern California. Nearly hundreds of thousands of guests go there on holidays and weekends. They often take a full trip to the well-liked areas throughout the day. Places such as Oldsmobile Hill and Gecko Road are mostly visited in the afternoon.
Some data estimates that nearly 2 million sightseers flock to these sand dunes each year. They usually come for day-use riding or to camp over weekends and ride in the dunes. Mounting to the pinnacles of over 300 feet beyond the adjoining desert floor, the dunes are a distinguished milestone to local inhabitants as well as to the thousands of freeway voyagers who pass by them every year. The sand dunes owe their origin to the beach sands of antique Lake Cahuilla. It is a water body shaped by periodic changes of the Colorado River in the Imperial Valley. It is a common notion around the region that it has been formed chiefly as a result of opposing seasonal winds.
The Imperial Sand Dunes, the biggest sand dunes open to off-road use in the U. S., show a discrepancy in its width. It is stretched from a quarter mile at the north end of the colossal Wash area to about 6 miles in width below Highway 78. Some off-road buffs take a trip to the area year round. During summer months, you got to be geared up for temperatures which constantly get higher than 100ºF and may reach 120ºF sometimes. On the other hand, similar to most of the California desert, the dampness is low and the nights are relatively cool. In view of the fact that the annual rainfall is pretty low, the only winter risk is blowing sand.
Glamis Sand Dunes offer some wonderful opportunities for leisure. You could enjoy off-highway vehicle activities, as it is allowed on more than two-thirds of the sand dunes. This facility is offered over 118,000 acres of area. Mammoth Wash, Glamis/ Gecko and Buttercup Valley are three places in the dunes which provide a great boost to its tourism. If you love competitive races, then you will come across some organized events in the form of sand drags, closed-course racing and hill climbs which are held in the dunes. Apart from the races, you could also have the luxury of commercial filming, photography and promotional events.
