Jets are found in everything from jet-skis and PWC’s to expensive Hinckley Picnic Boats to 200’ mega-yachts. But the Buehler Turbocraft is the granddaddy of them all. When the Turbocraft made its debut in 1959, she created a sensation in the boating world. She was a high-performance all-fiberglass runabout that could run at 35 knots in 2” of water. With no appendages below the hull, she could run over logs, snags, even dry sandbars with no damage. She could do things that normal boats could not, and her builders delighted in demonstrating some of her more dramatic capabilities, e.g. dropping her from full-speed forward immediately into full-speed reverse; throwing the boat into a broadside slide at full speed, etc. Turbocrafts were exhibited at the New York World’s Fair, featured in a James Bond movie, owned by Jackie Kennedy, and even purchased by Nikita Khruschev (the Cuban missile crisis apparently prevented his from being delivered however).
